Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program fund is designated in support of the establishment of Shepherd University's first doctoral program. This annually funded award was established by Shepherdstown residents Paul and Lisa Welch, who are both actively involved in the Shepherd University campus community.
Dolores Snyder Smith Scholarship
The Dolores Snyder Smith Scholarship was created in support of West Virginia residents pursuing studies in the area of business at Shepherd University. The endowed scholarship was established by Shepherd alum and former president of the Shepherd University Foundation Michael A. Smith '89 in honor of his mother, Dolores Snyder Smith. Dolores passed away soon after the creation of this award, but her legacy will support generations of future students.
Don and Mary Mauzy Scholarship
The Don and Mary Mauzy Scholarship is designated for accounting majors from West Virginia who exhibit financial need. This endowment was established in 2018 by Emily Mauzy as a gift to her parents in recognition of their love and support. Don ’73 and Mary ‘73 Mauzy met as students at Shepherd, where Don majored in business and Mary in home economics. Don was also named a McMurran Scholar in 1972. Originally established as an annually funded award, the Don and Mary Mauzy Scholarship was endowed in December 2019.
Donald L. Myers Scholarship
The Donald L. Myers Scholarship is designated for Maryland residents majoring in business administration, economics, or accounting, with first preference given to students from Washington County, MD. This endowment was created by Donald L. Myers '68, who served as the longtime CFO, vice president, and treasurer of American University until his death in 2013.
Dow Benedict and Rhonda Smith Endowment for Art and Theater
The Dow Benedict and Rhonda Smith Endowment for Art and Theater is designated as program support for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Shepherd University. This endowment was established in 2020 by two retired faculty members: Dow Benedict, former dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, and Rhonda Smith, former chair of the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater.
Dr. C. Vincent Townsend EMS Scholarship
The Dr. C. Vincent Townsend EMS Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for students involved in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia Safety Management Program at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College. This endowment was created by members of the EMS community in honor of Dr. C. Vincent Townsend, who served as the regional medical director of North Eastern Regional Emergency Medical Services for more than 20 years. This endowment was established in tribute to his retirement.
Dr. Carl Bell Scholarship
The Dr. Carl Bell Biology Fund is designated for students pursuing a degree in the biological sciences. This fund was endowed as a result of a challenge issued by Dr. Philip Spaulding to the biology graduates of the Shepherd 1967 graduating class. These donations were made in honor of Dr. Carl Bell as a mentor and inspiration.
Dr. Cornelia Hoch-Ligeti Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Cornelia Hoch-Ligeti Memorial Fund is designated for music and/or life science majors. This endowment was established by Dr. Hans Hoch in memory of his wife.
Dr. Fred Kenamond Business Scholarship
The Dr. Frederick Kenamond Business Scholarship is designated for students majoring in business. This endowment was established by Dr. Frederick Kenamond, a 1937 graduate of Shepherd College. His father, A.D. Kenamond, worked for Shepherd in a number of capacities, including Dean of the University, a position he held with distinction for over 20 years until his retirement in 1948.
Dr. James Pantle Music Education Scholarship
The Dr. James Pantle Music Education Scholarship is designated for students pursuing studies in the areas of music or music education. This endowed fund was established in 2014 by the Shepherd University Department of Music in memory of the beloved professor and coordinator of music education, who was known for his kindness, sincerity, and dedication to his students and colleagues.
