Karen Wempe Breast Cancer Memorial Scholarship
The Karen Wempe Breast Cancer Memorial Scholarship is designated for students pursuing careers in the sciences. This endowment was created in 2004 by Mr. and Mrs. Olin Joyce, the parents of Karen Wempe, as well as her husband, William Wempe. Karen Wempe worked as an assistant to the Vice President of Administration and Finance at Shepherd University. She passed away after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Kathy Windle Ram Band Color Guard Scholarship
The Kathy Windle Ram Band Color Guard Scholarship was established by Wesley Windle in memory of his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Windle. Kathy was a performer, educator, trainer, and award winning choreographer who loved and lived a life of storytelling through music and movement. She was owner of New Hopewell Center for the Arts and instructor of the Jefferson High School Band Color Guard and the Shepherd University Ram Band Color Guard. The endowed award will support Jefferson High School and Washington High School graduates who participated in their high school band color guard and who are enrolled in the Shepherd University Ram Band Color Guard.
Kay & Daniel De Palma Scholarship
The Kay and Daniel De Palma Scholarship is designated for business administration majors in their senior year. This endowment was established by the De Palmas in 2000. Daniel De Palma was an assistant professor of business administration at Shepherd.
Keith and Susan Batten Scholarship
The Keith and Susan Batten Scholarship is designated for both social work and nursing majors who have been lifelong residents of Jefferson or Berkeley Counties, WV. This endowment was established in 1977 by Dr. Susan Batten in memory of her late husband Richard K. Batten, who served as Director of Social Work at City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Dr. Keith Batten also served as a field instructor for Shepherd College from 1982-1995.
Keith L. Hess Scholarship
The Keith L. Hess Scholarship is designated for student athletes in the men's basketball program. This endowment was created in 2013 by the late Keith Hess '54, a sports aficionado and former Shepherd Ram men's basketball player. Keith turned his love of sports into a career, initiating the men's basketball program at Fannet-Metal High School before taking the role of assistant basketball coach at Shippensburg University. He also enjoyed a long and distinguished career officiating basketball, soccer, and volleyball at the high school and college levels with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), who recognized him for 50 years of service in 2012. Mr. Hess passed away in September 2014.
Ken and Kitty Harbaugh Scholarship
The Ken and Kitty Harbaugh Scholarship is designated for elementary education majors. This endowment was established by the Harbaughs, who have close connections to Shepherd and wished to give back to the university.
Kenneth Riley Memorial Scholarship
The Kenneth Riley Memorial Scholarship is designated for students majoring in psychology. This endowment was established by Ursula Riley in memory of her husband, Kenneth, a professor in education at Shepherd College beginning in 1956.
Kris Hughes/Angelo Smith Memorial Scholarship
The Kris Hughes and Angelo Smith Memorial Scholarship is designated for football players with a declared business administration major. This endowment was established by Brian Jackson '87, a former Ram football player, in memory of two of his teammates. Kris and Angelo were talented both on the field and off, but both passed away within years of graduating.
L&M Family Scholarship in Memory of Laurence D. Bory
The L&M Family Scholarship in Memory of Laurence D. Bory is designated for students majoring in music or music education, with a preference for those concentrating on voice performance. This annually funded award was established in 2017 by Marellen Johnson Aherne in memory of her husband Laurence "Larry" Bory. The couple shared a love of music, vocal performances, and musical theater. According to Marellen, the arts run through her life and are fundamental to her being, a sentiment shared by her late husband.
Lambda Chi Alpha Endowment
The Lambda Chi Alpha Endowment was created in 2011 by Karl Wolf '70 for active members of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
