Lingenfelter Scholarship
The Lingenfelter Scholarship was created in 2013 by Monica and Bill Lingenfelter. It is annually funded scholarship award for a member of the football program.
Liz and Chris Giese Women's Golf Program Scholarship
The Liz and Chris Giese Women’s Golf Program Scholarship is designated in support of student-athletes participating in the women’s golf program at Shepherd University. This annually funded award was created in 2020 by Chris and Liz Giese, both of whom are avid golfers who would like to see more opportunities for women to participate in the sport.
Loats Foundation Scholarship
The Loats Foundation Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for students from Frederick, MD, who are (1) orphans, (2) from broken homes, (3) have financial need, (4) have good grades, and (5) intend to pursue a career in public service. This endowed fund was established in 1992 by the estate of John Loats.
Louise Leonard Nelson Memorial Scholarship
The Louise Leonard Nelson Memorial Scholarship is designated for WV residents majoring in political science or global studies. This endowment was established In 2000 by Mrs. Nelson, a former WV state senator.
Lt. Gilbert Perry Memorial Scholarship
The Lt. Gilbert Perry Memorial Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for students from Harpers Ferry or Jefferson County, WV. This endowment was established in 1977 through a gift from Mrs. Newton W. Alexander.
Lueck-Taylor Memorial Football Scholarship
The Lueck-Taylor Memorial Football Scholarship is designated for student athletes involved in Shepherd University's football program. This endowed fund was established in 1996 by Allen and Sara Lueck in memory of deceased members of their families, notably Pansy Taylor, Sara’s mother.
Lynne and Don Cosner Scholarship
The Lynne and Don Cosner Scholarship is designated for students majoring in math education. This deferred endowment was created in 2018 by Martinsburg residents Donald and Lynne Cosner. While they did not attend Shepherd, they still think of it as "their school.” The couple has faithfully attended CATF plays for 20 years, along with concerts and other campus events, and they enjoy following Shepherd sports. Don and Lynne relocated from the Baltimore area to the eastern panhandle more than two decades ago. They now reside on a working farm in northern Berkeley County with a menagerie of animals, including four horses, four dogs, 12 cats, two cows, five chickens, and a turtle. Lynne is an avid horsewoman who rides nearly every day. A retired middle school math teacher of more than 30 years, Lynne taught at Boonsboro Middle School during the latter part of her career and watched many former students go on to attend Shepherd. The couple chose to establish this scholarship in tribute to Lynne’s career and their appreciation for the university. A retired business owner in the construction and homebuilding industry, Don notes that math makes up the foundation for many of the couple’s lifelong interests, including engineering, construction, and veterinary medicine. “We both felt that we should give something back to the community and, as expensive as it is today to get a college education, scholarships have become very important,” said Don. “Lynne has taught a lot of kids math over the years and we think it would be beneficial to give what we have to students who are interested in pursuing careers in mathematics.”
M. Douglas Harlan Endowment
The M. Douglass Harlan Endowment for the Community College is designated for single, head-of-household females who are enrolled full-time at Blue Ridge CTC or for full-time female employees of Blue Ridge CTC. The endowment was established in 1998 through M. Douglass Harlan and his family to help women advance in the workplace.
M. Elizabeth Oates Faculty Excellence Endowment for Business
The M. Elizabeth Oates Faculty Endowment for Business is designated for the recruitment, recognition, and retention of outstanding faculty in business. This endowment was established in 2007 by Liz Oates, a member of the Shepherd University board of directors.
M. Louise Shimp Memorial Faculty Excellence Endowment Fund for Art
The M. Louise Shimp Memorial Faculty Excellence Endowment for Art is designated for the recruitment, recognition, and retention of outstanding faculty in the arts. This endowment was established by the Oates family in memory of M. Louise Shimp '55.
