Howard N. Carper, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established upon the retirement of Dr. Howard Carper, Jr., after 36 years of service to Shepherd College. He joined the faculty in 1957 and was named Academic Dean in 1984 and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1989. It is a general academic award
Hoxton Endowed Lectureship for Financial Planning
The Hoxton Endowed Lectureship for Financial Planning is designated as a discretionary faculty development fund in support of a faculty member in the College of Business teaching in the financial planning program. This endowment was created in 2020 by Shepherdstown residents Rob and Mary Logan Hoxton, who also provided an additional gift of first-year seed money to create the Center for Financial Education at Shepherd University. The center will serve to develop curriculum and activities, raise money for scholarships, conduct research, and offer financial planning education to the community.
Hungarian Student Scholarship
The Hungarian Student Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for Hungarian citizens who wish to attend Shepherd University. This endowment was established in the early 1990's.
Huntington National Bank Scholarship
The Huntington Bank Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for Eastern Panhandle, WV residents. This endowment was established by Huntington Bank, which is now owned by First United Bank.
I.O. Ash Memorial Scholarship
The I.O. Ash Memorial Scholarship is designated for secondary education majors. This endowment was created by Mrs. Nila Ash Saylor and Mr. Robert I. Ash in memory of their father, Irvin Ash, who spent most of his career as a professor of education at Shepherd College (1924-52). Following his retirement, Dr. Ash taught at Storer College in Harpers Ferry, and authored a book entitled West Virginia Educators.
Ida Elizabeth Hendricks Memorial Scholarship
The Ida Elizabeth Hendricks Memorial Scholarship is designated for developmental studies students at Blue Ridge CTC. This endowment was established in memory of Ida Elizabeth Hendricks by her husband Bill. Mrs. Hendricks taught developmental education at Shepherd for 13 years.
Imogene Coleman Davenport Riely Memorial Scholarship
The Imogene Coleman Davenport Riely Memorial Scholarship is designated as a general academic award, with preference given to full-time students from Jefferson County, WV, with financial need and a 2.5+ GPA. This endowment was established by Henry Davenport, III in memory of his mother, Imogene Riely. Mrs. Riely was a member of the Shepherd University Foundation board of directors and was well known for her community work.
Jack and Pat Egle Athletic Scholarship
The Jack and Pat Egle Athletic Scholarship was established by longtime supporters of Shepherd University, graduates Jack ’61 and Pat ’60 Egle. The annually funded award will support student-athletes participating on the Shepherd University Women’s Basketball, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Volleyball teams.
Jack M. and Anna P. Widmyer Scholarship
The Jack M. and Anna P. Widmyer Scholarship is designated as a general academic award. This endowment was created in 1988 by Jack and Anna '36 Widmyer to reflect their high regard for education and as an encouragement for young people to seek out and achieve higher goals. Anna returned to Shepherd as a professor of French and English from 1946-1950. Jack passed away in 1990 and Anna passed on in 2002.
James A. Butcher Education Scholarship
The James A. Butcher Education Scholarship is designated for education majors. It was established in honor of Dr. Butcher upon his retirement in 1989 after serving for 20 years as president of Shepherd University. Through Dr. Butcher's efforts, four academic buildings, five residence halls, and a maintenance building were erected on Shepherd's campus.
