The Berkeley County Superintendent of Schools’ Education Scholarship
The Berkeley County Superintendent of Schools’ Education Scholarship is designated for graduates of Berkeley County Schools majoring in K-12 education at Shepherd University. This annually funded award was established in 2020 by Dr. Patrick K. Murphy, who joined Berkeley County Schools as superintendent of schools in September 2019.
The George Washington Chair of Living Ethics
The George Washington Chair of Living Ethics is designated for the purpose of attracting a nationally-recognized scholar to hold a full-time position at Shepherd University in which he/she will teach ethics courses, present public lectures, and work with other faculty to enhance the teaching of living ethics in all contexts. This endowed fund was established as a collaborative effort among the Washington Chair of Ethics organizing committee, the Eastern WV Community Foundation, and the Shepherd University Foundation.
The Shepherd Fund
The Shepherd Fund provides vital financial support for virtually every aspect of the Shepherd University experience. Contributions provide sustaining support for academic, scholarship, cultural, and athletic programs; faculty and staff development; campus renewal and beautification; and other department programs and initiatives.
The William E. (Ned) Moler Scholarship
The William E. (Ned) Moler Scholarship is designated as a general academic award. This endowment was established through a testamentary gift by William Edward "Ned" Moler '65. Each year into perpetuity, his generosity will provide 20-35 presidential level awards to deserving Shepherd students.
The William W. & Mary S. Cookson Endowed Scholarship Fund
Created through an estate gift in 2024 by Sandra Price Cookson, the William W. & Mary S. Cookson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to award recipients pursuing studies in the area of education. The donor's hope is that recipients will use this scholarship as a springboard to teaching future generations of students in the state of West Virginia upon graduation. Sandra was a member of the Joseph P. McMurran Society, which recognizes donors who have left bequests to Shepherd, from 2004 until her death in 2015.
Thelma Faye Rollins Scholarship
The Thelma Faye Rollins Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for blind students. This endowment was established by Thelma Rollins through a bequest in her will in 1992. Mrs. Rollins became legally blind in her later years.
Thomas A. Polutanovitch Scholarship
The Thomas A. Polutanovitch Scholarship is designated for science majors from Delaware. This endowment was created by William Passwaters, a 1965 graduate of Shepherd.
Thomas and Sherry Lurry Memorial Scholarship
The Thomas and Sherry Lurry Memorial Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for residents of WV displaying financial need and academic success. This endowment was established by Thomas M. Lurry, who left a bequest in his will specifying that the entirety of his estate be left to the Shepherd University Foundation for the purpose of establishing a scholarship that would aid and assist deserving students in furthering their education at Shepherd University.
Thomas Fehmel Scholarship
The Thomas Fehmel Scholarship is designated as a general academic award. This endowed fund was created by Tim '80 and Carole McShea in memory of Tim's classmate and friend, Thomas Fehmel, who exemplified character traits that Tim found honorable.
Thomas Guy Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship
The Thomas Guy Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship is designated for students majoring in education who have a 3.0+ GPA. This endowment was created in honor of Thomas Guy Reynolds, Jr. '33 by his son, John Reynolds '64, in tribute to the example he set for his children in establishing ideals, principles, and goals.
