Anna Henshaw Gardiner Memorial Scholarship
The Anna Henshaw Gardiner Scholarship for Nursing is designated for students in majoring in nursing. This annually funded award was established in 2006 to reflect the generous donations of the William Henshaw Chapter of the NSDAR to an already established nursing fund. Ms. Gardiner was nursing instructor at Shepherd and a member of the William Henshaw Chapter.
Anna Thorn Rice Memorial Scholarship
The Anna Thorn Rice Memorial Scholarship is designated for students majoring in nursing. This endowment was originally established in 1959 through a trust to provide student nurse training at King's Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg. It was eventually changed to provide scholarship support to Shepherd nursing students.
Annette Murphy Faculty Excellence Fund in English
The Annette Murphy Faculty Excellence Fund in English is designated for the recruitment, recognition, and retention of outstanding faculty in English and modern languages. This endowment was created by Annette Murphy '06, a Shepherd graduate and former member of the Shepherd University Foundation board of directors. Annette is the founder, president and CEO of the Library Corporation (TLC), an international company for providing automation technologies to libraries.
Annita L. Capouellez-Flett Memorial Scholarship
The Annita L. Capouellez-Flett Memorial Scholarship is designated for nursing students. It was created by David Flett in memory of his wife, Annita, a 1991 graduate of Shepherd University. Anitta passed away in 2002 from a fatal heart attack. She was a registered nurse in Pennsylvania.
Antietam Institute Scholarship/George Tyler Moore Center for Study of the Civil War

Appalachian Studies and Communities Endowment
The Appalachian Studies and Communities Endowment is designated as program support for Appalachian Studies programming and community outreach in the region. This endowed fund was established in 2020 by an anonymous donor. The Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities is focused on education in the region with an attempt to enhance the work of classroom teachers who instruct underserved children; this endowment will allow the center to extend its work to other areas that impact the region, such as business, environmental studies, education, and history.
Arthur J. Auxer Endowment for the Shipley Wellness Center
The Arthur J. Auxer Endowment for the Shipley Wellness Center is designated to support the Shipley Wellness Center programs and operations. It was established by former Shepherd University President, Suzanne Shipley, and her husband, Randall Wadsworth.

Austin J. Slater, Jr. ‘76 and Carmen L. Slater Scholarship
The Austin J. Slater, Jr. ‘76 and Carmen L. Slater Scholarship is designated for students pursuing studies in an academic department included within the College of Business. This endowment was established in 2019 by Shepherd alumnus Austin Slater, Jr. '76 and his wife, Carmen. Before his 2020 retirement, Austin Slater led the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO), one of the largest electric co-ops in the nation. Austin was also active in many civic and community organizations and served on several industry-specific boards. Several of his colleagues among these organizations contributed gifts of both a corporate and personal nature to these scholarships in commemoration of Austin’s retirement as president and CEO of SMECO. Austin and Carmen now reside Shepherdstown, where they purchased and renovated a house in the downtown historic district. They are actively involved in campus and community life and enjoy attending university-sponsored events. They are also avid hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, and are the proud resource parents to their son, George, who currently serves in the United States Army.
Bank of Charles Town Scholarship
The Bank of Charles Town Scholarship is designated as a general academic award for students who graduated from Jefferson High School in WV. It was established in 1988.
