Scarborough Library Community Reading Room Dedication

The new Community Reading Room will feature artwork by local artists in a rotating gallery display. Works by multi-mediast Malcolm Hally are currently on display. Hally studied at the world-renowned Glasgow School of Art and at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Scarborough Society President Ray Alvarez welcomed the crowd of more than 50 Society members, University faculty, staff, and community members to the event.

Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix thanks the Scarborough Society for their generous support in creating the new space before introducing Shepherdstown Poet Laureate Hope Maxwell Snyder.

Current Shepherdstown Poet Laureate Hope Maxwell Snyder reads several of her works at the dedication. Snyder’s poems and translations have appeared in numerous publications including Alehouse Press, The Gettysburg Review, International Poetry Review, OCHO, and The Kenyon Review.

Dr. Scott Beard (l), Acting Provost, and Dow Benedict (r), dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, both listen intently to Dr. Snyder’s works.
