Women for Shepherd “Town and Gown” Historic Walking Tour

The tour began in front of McMurran Hall, which currently serves as the administrative offices for the Shepherd University Foundation and the Shepherd University Alumni Association. The building was originally built to serve as a town hall in 1859 before being leased to the college.

Dr. Benjamin Bankhurst (l) and Dr. Keith Alexander (r) served as tour guides for the event. Both are faculty within the Shepherd University history department.

Patrick Fuller, who graduated with a history degree from Shepherd in 2021, spoke to tour participants in front of Knutti Hall about World War I as it related to the University’s history.

The Catherine Weltzheimer House, which is one of the oldest buildings in Shepherdstown, is currently a focal point in Shepherd’s historic preservation program.
