'83 & '84 Championships Baseball Scholarship
The '83 & '84 Championships Baseball Scholarship is designated for student athletes on the Shepherd University men's baseball team. This annually funded award was created in 2018 by members of the 1983 and 1984 men's baseball team who bonded as friends and teammates over one common goal: to win Shepherd’s first baseball championship. Together they achieved that goal and have continued to stay in touch and support each other as friends and teammates throughout the years. The group has chosen to carry on their legacy by creating this scholarship. Says teammate Craig Kershner '88, “Our new common goal as a team is to help student athletes who play baseball for Shepherd. It is our hope that these deserving students may create the same lasting bonds of friendship with their teammates as we did.”
1955 Football Team Endowment
The 1955 Football Team Endowment is designated for the Shepherd football team. This endowment was established in 2006 by alumni to honor the undefeated 1955 Ram football team and provide funds to support the football program. Specific needs may include scholarships, equipment, travel transportation expenses, insurance, or others as determined by the coach.
Adele and Charles Sands Scholarship
The Adele and Charles Sands Scholarship is designated for freshman student athletes majoring in business with a 3.0+ GPA. This endowment was established by Adele and Charles Sands to support athletics and encourage scholastic achievement. Their son, Richard Sands '73, played football at Shepherd and graduated with a B.A. in business.
Agnes Burns Memorial Scholarship
The Agnes Burnes Memorial Scholarship is designated as a general academic scholarship.
Agnes Tabler Scholarship
The Agnes H. Tabler Scholarship is designated for elementary education majors residing in West Virginia with a GPA of at least 2.5. This endowment was created in 2002 by Nancy Miller '73 in honor of Agnes Tabler, who served as Shepherd's associate registrar for 42 years.
Al and Sara Lueck Interior Offensive Line Football Scholarship
The Al and Sara Lueck Interior Offensive Line Football Scholarship is designated for student-athletes who hold the positions of center, guard or tackle on the Shepherd University football team. This annually funded award was created in 2012 by Al '67 and Sara '67 Lueck and endowed in 2020. The Luecks are a local couple who are well-known for their enthusiasm for the Shepherd football program, having previously established several other scholarships in support of it. Al played for the Rams as a Shepherd student, holding the position of offensive lineman.
Al Lueck Football Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 2020 by Al Lueck '67 to fund ten football scholarships for four years.
Albert C. and Jeanne V. Nerhood Memorial Scholarship
The Albert C. and Jeanne V. Nerhood Memorial Scholarship is designated for nursing majors from Jefferson County, WV. This endowment was established the Nerhood family in memory of Albert Nerhood, who worked hard to elevate educational standards in the public school system. Upon Mrs. Nerhood's death in 2007, the family added her name to the scholarship fund.
Albert H. and Estelle Koonce Cobb Memorial Research Fund
The Albert H. and Estelle Koonce Cobb Memorial Research Fund is designated for science and technology research. This endowment was originally established by funds given in 1993 by Albert Cobb '50 in memory of his wife and several other family members. Upon Albert's passing, previous gifts made on his behalf were transferred to the Shepherd University Foundation.
Alfred L. Young, Jr. Scholarship
The Alfred L. Young, Jr. Scholarship is designated for Shepherd University business students. This endowment was established in 2019 by alumnus Alfred (Al) L. Young '89, who graduated from Shepherd with a degree in hotel and restaurant management and previously helped lead LaSalle Hotel Properties in Washington, D.C. He also serves on the Shepherd University Foundation board of directors and is a member of the Shepherd University Alumni Association and the President's Club.
