Scholar Spotlight with Briel Durand-Zara
This week in our Scholar Spotlight is Shepherd senior Briel Durand-Zara, a psychology major from Gaithersburg, MD. Briel is the recipient of the Harry C. Rickard Scholarship, a general academic award established through the estate of Harry Rickard ’33, who graduated from Shepherd with a science degree and later and served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army.
In a statement that captures the true spirit of this week of Thanksgiving, Briel said, “This scholarship has propelled me further toward a degree in psychology and my aspirations of one day having a successful career as a therapist. I see myself in the future helping a new generation overcome the challenge and hardship of mental illness, and am so grateful for this award in helping me achieve that goal.”
