New accounting scholarship honors Shepherd University professor Roger Hamood
Roger Hamood joined the Shepherd College faculty in 1978 as an assistant professor of accounting in the Division of Business Administration. During his four-decade tenure, he served the Shepherd University accounting program as an instructor, professor and department chair, taught over 6,500 students, and co-founded the West Virginia Council of Accounting Educators. In 2002, he was named Accounting Educator of the Year by the WV Society of Certifies Public Accountants. Professor Hamood retired in 2019.
Now the Roger Hamood Accounting Student Endowment has been established by alumni, friends, colleagues, and students of Professor Hamood in recognition of his 41 years of service to the accounting program at Shepherd University. Funds from the endowment are designated for the benefit of accounting students and may be used for scholarship awards, part-time student funding, and student travel for school functions.
“Today, a degree from Shepherd University with a major in Accounting is highly respected among future employers,” said Hamood. “Our students, upon graduation and in some cases before earning their degree, have little difficulty obtaining employment in the field. I hope that over the past 41 years, I have touched the lives of our students in a positive manner. It has been an honor and pleasure to be part of the faculty over this time period.”
