Dream Job Scholarship Created in Honor of Provost Stephen Spencer

Dr. Stephen Spencer joined Shepherd University in 2022 as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The leadership and vision that he has implemented at Shepherd will influence the community for years to come. His legacy will carry on through the Spencer Family “Dream Job” Scholarship.

Funded by the neighbors, friends, and family of Dr. Spencer, this scholarship is designated in support of Shepherd students who have a vision of their dream job following graduation. Prior to joining the Shepherd team, Dr. Spencer earned his Ph.D. in modern American literature and multi-ethnic literature of the United States from the University of Cincinnati, an M.A. in English, and a B.A. in English, with a minor in history, from the University of Dayton. He served as a faculty member and administrator at Wilmington College of Ohio, the University of Southern Indiana, and Athens State University. He also served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in American Studies at Universidad Complutense Madrid before finding his dream job as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Shepherd.

To honor Dr. Spencer’s love of literature and passion for poetry, candidates for the Spencer Family “Dream Job” Scholarship will submit both an essay and a poem portraying their vision of their dream job. Through this generous award, Dr. Spencer’s passion for education and leadership at Shepherd will continue to support generations of future students.
