CohnReznick LLP, a leading advisory, assurance, and tax firm, has invested longstanding support in the Shepherd University accounting program. With offices nationwide and over 5,000 global employees, CohnReznick is among the fastest-growing professional services in the United States. The firm has offered a variety of internship, networking, and career opportunities for Shepherd’s accounting department.

“CohnReznick gave me a wonderful opportunity to grow as an accountant and professional,” explained accounting major Timothy Johnson ‘25. “I would highly recommend other students jump at the opportunity to improve their skills.”

Accounting major Ian King ‘25 concurred the pivotal role that the firm has played in student development.

“Their commitment to student growth has been invaluable—whether through mock interviews, speaker panels, or networking opportunities,” said King. “My internship experience with CohnReznick as an Assurance Intern in the summer of 2024 provided hands-on exposure to the accounting field, allowing me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations. The firm’s continuous support and engagement have truly enriched my academic and professional journey.”

In an effort to further the firm’s support of the program, CohnReznick has established a new annually funded award at Shepherd University to provide vital opportunities for accounting faculty. The CohnReznick Accounting Faculty Excellence Award will strengthen the program in various ways, including salary enhancements to assure the quality and ongoing development of the accounting curriculum, research assistantships for faculty, travel, and professional development funds.

“The accounting faculty are honored to have CohnReznick’s support to maintain the quality of Shepherd’s accounting program,” said Dr. Cindy Vance, associate professor and accounting program head. “The faculty are essential in developing accounting students with the knowledge and skills sought by employers. This partnership provides professional development funds for faculty to maintain a certified public accountant (CPA) license and to join professional accounting organizations for networking and staying abreast of changes in the accounting field.”
