The Joseph P. McMurran Society is our most prestigious giving society, honoring alumni and friends who have chosen to include Shepherd University in their estate plans. Established in honor of Shepherd’s first president, Joseph P. McMurran, the Society and its members continue to carry out his philanthropic foresight and vision with their generosity. Here you will find information about membership in the Joseph P. McMurran Society, as well as making a planned gift to Shepherd University.
The Scarborough Society of Shepherd University is an annual Friends of the Library membership organization dedicated to providing new sources of supplemental funding to enhance the collections, programs, and technology of Scarborough Library. Throughout the year, the group sponsors a variety of social and cultural events for alumni, faculty, students, and the surrounding community, including the annual Scarborough Gala, a popular social and fundraising event that pays homage to history’s most notable literary figures. Created in 2013, Women for Shepherd University is a network of alumnae, friends, and faculty who come together throughout the year to learn first-hand about Shepherd’s culture and the positive impact that its community – women especially – can and do have on both the University and each other. Through these programs, they hope to inspire, share, educate, learn… and, of course, have fun!
In 2014, the group launched its philanthropic subsidiary, Women Investing in Shepherd (WISH), a women’s giving circle created to educate, engage and empower women to achieve their philanthropic goals. Their high-impact grants affect positive changes, bring new funding resources, and make philanthropy accessible to Shepherd University and our tri-state community.
